- NEW FEATURES
-
- - Internet Connectivity Protection
- To prevent a user from inadvertently
- disabling his or her Internet connection,
- the option to ban an Internet address is
- excluded on a Blue Alert when Personal
- Firewall detects that the source of the
- incoming Internet traffic can resolve to
- a DHCP or DNS server. If the incoming
- traffic does not resolve to a DHCP or
- DNS server, the option appears.
-
- - Enhanced Security Control
- Running the Lockdown feature in McAfee Personal
- Firewall Plus allows you to instantly block
- all incoming and outgoing Internet traffic
- between a computer and the Internet. Users
- can enable and disable Lockdown from three
- locations in Personal Firewall. Lockdown is
- beneficial during computer-related emergencies,
- for users who need to block all traffic to isolate
- and troubleshoot a problem on their computer, or
- for those who are uncertain, and need to determine,
- how to manage an Internet-enabled application.
-
- - Automatic Event Submission
- Reporting potential hackers is easier than
- ever. An optional setting lets users choose
- to submit their events directly to our
- community database, HackerWatch.org. The
- data is used to alert a worldwide community
- of the latest threats to individual
- computers. McAfee Personal Firewall Plus
- continues to improve the functionality of
- HackerWatch.org, which includes this
- automatic event submission of potentially
- malicious events.
-
- - Improved Usability
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus includes a
- Setup Assistant and a User Tutorial to guide
- users in the setup and use of their
- firewall. Although the product is designed
- for use without any intervention, McAfee
- provides users with a wealth of resources to
- understand the firewall.
-
- - Enhanced Smart Recommendations
- When an application seeks Internet access,
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus first checks
- whether it recognizes the application as
- trusted or malicious. If the application is
- recognized as trusted, McAfee automatically
- lets it access the Internet so you do not
- have to. This database has been enhanced to
- provide more details about applications
- connecting to the Internet.
-
- - Improved Visual Tracing
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus includes an
- updated intruder-tracing tool known as
- Visual Trace. Visual Trace includes
- easy-to-read graphical maps showing the
- originating source of hostile attacks and
- traffic worldwide, including detailed
- contact/owner information from originating
- IP addresses and all subsequent steps to
- your computer. McAfee Personal Firewall Plus
- has added more geographical data to the
- Visual Trace feature that enhances location
- details and provides more visual pin-point
- locations of intruders. Visual Trace lets
- users visually track where intrusions
- originate, and with this new data, users are
- able to see a better graphical
- representation of their searches.
-
- - Improved Intrusion Detection
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus protects your
- privacy more than ever by providing
- intrusion detection of possible Internet
- threats.
-
- - Enhanced Traffic Analysis
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus offers users a
- view of both incoming and outgoing data from
- their computers, as well as displaying
- application connections including
- applications that are actively "listening"
- for open connections.
-
- - Improved Access Handling
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus lets users
- dynamically grant applications temporary access
- to the Internet. Access is restricted to the
- time the application launches until the time it
- closes. When Personal Firewall detects an unknown
- program, attempting to communicate with the Internet,
- a Red Alert provides the option to grant the
- application temporary access to the Internet. This
- feature supports many scenarios, such as
- installing new programs or updates, which only
- require brief Internet access, as well as
- occasions where you are unfamiliar with a
- program and want to observe its behavior before
- granting full Internet access.
-
- - Improved Recovery Options
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus makes manually
- restoring default settings unnecessary. You
- can now run Reset Options to automatically
- restore the default settings to Personal
- Firewall. If Personal Firewall exhibits
- undesirable behavior that you cannot correct,
- you can choose to undo your current settings
- and revert to the product's default settings,
- which provide a stable and working version
- of Personal Firewall.
-
- - Improved Gaming Support
- McAfee Personal Firewall Plus protects your
- computer from intrusion attempts and suspicious
- activities during full-screen gameplay, but can
- hide alerts if it detects intrusion attempts or
- suspicious activities. Alerts appear after you
- exit the game.
-

- INSTALLATION AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-
- Please see product documentation for complete
- information regarding installation and system
- requirements.
-
- Note:
- Please note during application uninstall:
- After deleting all McAfee applications
- including McAfee SecurityCenter, a file
- called MCINFO.EXE will remain temporarily
- until an Internet connection is established.
- This file will not affect normal operations
- as well as installation, uninstallation, or
- re-installation of McAfee products.
